What does the RAYBA Board do?

The RAYBA board is the decision making arm of our youth basketball program. It is through the board that programs are designed, planned for and operated. The board determines the costs necessary to run each of these programs and sets applicable fees to cover the costs. Without a board there would be no association.

What does a Board Member do?

RAYBA meets on a regular basis to review issues and concerns surrounding our programs. Participation by board members during these meetings helps to find the best solutions for our organization. Besides meetings, each board member will be assigned a task or area. You can find this season’s assignments on the Board Member page. These assignments are held by board member for one year. After the election of new members, new assignments will be given to all Board of Directors members.

Assignments vary from year to year, but each board member is expected to assist with RAYBA's major events throughout the year. These include, but are not limited to, House Evaluations and Tournaments, Travel Tryouts and Tournaments, Spring MYAS Tournament, Hoop It Up, etc).

How long is the board term?

Each board member is elected to a 3-year term. In a typical year we elect up to seven members, which allows us to overlap the terms and ensure that 2/3 of the board carries over from the previous year. This helps in continuity and transition of assignments to new members.

How much time is expected of a board member?

Between monthly board meetings and the various events, a board member can expect to spend 40-50 hours each year in a RAYBA board member capacity (time varies depending upon position).

Who should volunteer to serve on the RAYBA board?

We are always looking for members who have an interest in youth basketball, have organizational skills that can be leveraged in the operation of the programs and have a passion for continued improvement of a youth program that has already become one of the top youth programs in the metro area! To balance our interests, we look for three to four of the new board members to have players at the In-House level.

How do I apply for the RAYBA board?

All you need to do is complete the board application (will be posted on home page when applications are open). Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted to come in for a brief interview.

How do I request to have an item for discussion added to the board meeting agenda?

Any member of the Association may request to have an item for discussion added to the board meeting agenda. Such requests must be received in writing to info@rayba.org at least 72 hours prior to the next meeting. All requests will contain the person(s) name, email and phone number who will be addressing the board, and a brief explanation of the item to be discussed. The number of items already on the agenda and the timeliness and relevance of the topic will determine if/when the topic will be added to a meeting and the length of time allotted on the agenda.
